Dodgers Bring Juan Rivera Back Home
Written by Daniel Turner, Tuesday July 12 2011
Maybe the Dodgers felt he was homesick, or possibly the Blue Jays were looking to shed a salary, but Juan Rivera is back in So Cal after being acquired by the Dodgers for either cash considerations or a player to be named later. Since the Dodgers have no cash to spare, it is a safe bet that a player to be named is what the Blue Jays will see heading north of the border. It is also being reported that Toronto tossed some cash LA’s way as part of the deal to defray Rivera’s contract cost.
Rivera was a favorite of Angels fans before being sent to the Great White North and his bat seemed to truly love the warm California sun. In order to make room on their roster the Dodgers designated Marcus Thames for assignment. Thames has struggled in Dodgers blue and Rivera should outshine him back in his Cali climes.
