Technology And Sports

Technology has changed the world of sports. Athletes tweet about their latest feelings. Sites like Playerpress let fans and athletes share their opinions. Do you want to follow your favorite team from far away? There's an app for that for your smart phone. Networks cover specific sports 24 hours a day, and ESPN proclaims their network as the Worldwide leader in sports.

For my money, this revolution of sports and technology started with sports radio. I have been a sports radio junkie for 25 years, about as long as I could drive a car and have complete control of the radio. Yesterday, I was able to fulfill a dream I have had for that long, to host my own show.

Sportsradio 910 in Richmond gave fans a chance to be in the studio and really steer the show. The open for the show promoted a chance to make dreams come true. For me, it really was. My hour long show was mostly about baseball. All of my calls came from Boston, so I am not sure what they think of me in the Richmond market. And I had to deal with one caller that wanted to go on and on about how great Derek Jeter was for getting hit 3000. Fortunately, I had sound effects to let that fan know what I really think.

The station's website is Sportsradio910.com. The producer said there would be pictures available and a podcast to download. I hope so, but even if they don't I have great memories of my time behind the mike, running my own baseball show on sports radio in Richmond.
