The Mutant Powers of the Dallas Cowboys
Written by Daniel Turner, Thursday July 07 2011
Only in the Marvel universe could one find a place big enough to hold the egos of Stan Lee and Jerry Jones yet it appears they have joined forces in a marketing effort that could leave the Silver Surfer pondering it as he drifts through space. This week Marvel and the Cowboys announced a new line of apparel featuring Marvel heroes decked out in Cowboys colors and sporting the ubiquitous Dallas star.
The t-shirts, hoodies and additional items will be sold through comic book retailers and those in the Dallas area see a cash cow in the combination of two male oriented interests; comics and sports. The licensing is shared by both Marvel and the Cowboys and additions to the current line are expected.
While this is not the first time Marvel characters have adorned team merchandise it is the largest marketing effort to date. Of course, Dallas will have to worry about whether a jinx now exists after Marvel characters were featured on the Miami Heat NBA Finals Champion shirts.
