UNLV and NBA player Armen Gilliam Dies on Court
Former UNLV great and NBA player Armen Gilliam died at the age of 47 Tuesday night at the LA Fitness gym in Bridgeville, a Pittsburgh-area health club, while he was playing basketball.
The cause of death has not yet been determined pending an autopsy.
Gilliam, a 6-foot-9 forward, played in the NBA for six different teams in 13 seasons and led UNLV to a 37-2 record and the Final Four in 1987.
Nicknamed "The Hammer," Gilliam played for the Phoenix Suns, Charlotte Hornets, Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets, Milwaukee Bucks and Utah Jazz.
Gilliam was taken as the No. 2 overall pick in the 1987 NBA draft by the Suns.
