Mauer Going To First?

Joe Mauer appeared on the Dan Patrick show, and on ESPN Radio on Thursday. He was promoting a deal he has with Head and Shoulders partnering to help the RBI program. But the question about playing on the field kept coming up. Is Mauer going to first base?

Mauer has not seen game time there, but he has been asked to take some ground balls there. Patrick asked him if he thought about moving there, and if that would have an impact on his chances on making the Hall of Fame. Catchers might make it with lower stats when their defensive contribution is taken into account.
Moving a valuable player out of catcher has been a topic of debate this year. The Giants lost Buster Posey for the year on a defensive play. Mauer has missed time this year with injuries, and it is clear players get beaten up. Even Johnny Bench, considered to be the best catcher of all time, played time at first and third.
