Cardinals Trying To Find the Silver Lining
Written by Daniel Turner, Tuesday June 28 2011
The Cards probably thought they got the worse of their news in February when Adam Wainwright went down with season ending surgery. Little did they know that the bad times would continue to roll with just about every starting player succumbing to injury culminating in the June 19 crash involving Albert Pujols.
The Cardinals have used the disabled list at this point in the season more than they did all of last season and have practically reassembled last year’s Memphis Redbirds in St. Louis. Still, even though Tony LaRussa has been forced to trot out 51 different lineups this season, the Cards aren’t looking all that bad.
Daniel Descalso, Jon Jay and Allen Craig may not be household names, but they are helping to keep the Cards afloat. Making a big run without Pujols may be impossible, but if the kids can keep it close, maybe the vets can get healthy and return in time for the stretch run.
