U.S.A. Men Need To Step Up
Written by Daniel Turner, Thursday June 23 2011
Going back to the World Cup we’ve expected more of the U.S.A. Men’s soccer team and they have yet to fulfill the expectations. After a lackluster performance in South Africa they returned to a series of friendlies that included a recent smacking by Spain. Currently they are in the Concacaf Gold Cup where it was expected they would face off with Mexico to determine the hardware. While they are on course, having secured a place in the finals last night, they have yet to look like they are certified tournament winners.
They struggled mightily against Panama, losing the first match, which forced them to play an extra match to reach the Quarter Final stage and they barely made it by the same side last night, winning 1-0 courtesy of a Clint Dempsey goal.
For the U.S.A. to become a world power they must be able to compete with South American and European nations. Struggling against Concacaf middle and lower tier sides only demonstrates how far they have to go.
