Braves Have More Young Arms
Written by Daniel Turner, Wednesday June 22 2011
Jair Jurrjens isn’t the only youthful starter that the Braves can send to the mound. On Tuesday Mike Minor proved he was ready for the Majors when he held the Blue Jays to 1 run over 7 innings. Today Brandon Beachy will attempt to follow in his footsteps and give the Braves a sweep of Toronto. Interestingly he opposes Jo-Jo Reyes who was originally drafted by Atlanta.
If Minor and Beachy can come close to equaling Jurrjens the Braves will have a rotation that could last deep into the future. And, while the kids are still learning, they have a veteran like Tim Hudson to shoulder the load.
Jason Heyward was last season’s rookie sensation, but the Braves are proving they are deep in young talent that can help make them a challenge to the Phillies for NL East supremacy and rekindle a good rivalry in the process.
