North Carolina Receives Notice of Allegations from NCAA
The University of North Carolina has received a notice of allegations from the NCAA concerning numerous violations in their football program.
The allegations include unethical conduct by a former assistant coach and failure to adequately monitor the conduct of both former and current players.
The notice was released Tuesday evening and it states that former associate head coach John Blake provided "false and misleading information" to both NCAA investigators and the school in reference to his relationship with deceased NFL agent Gary Wichard.
The notice includes Blake’s failure to report $31,000 in outside income from Wichard's firm, Pro Tect Management LLC, between May of 2007 to October of 2009.
According to the NCAA, once his players were in the NFL, Blake steered his players to hire Wichard as their agent.
The notice cites several instances where UNC players received improper benefits as well as alleged unethical conduct by former tutor Jennifer Wiley who refused to cooperate with the investigation and for providing extra benefits to the players with free travel, parking expenses and free tutoring.
The school has 90 days to respond to the notice and is scheduled to appear before the NCAA infractions committee on October 28 in Indianapolis.
