Pujols Fractures Arm out 4-6 Weeks
St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols fractured his left arm on Sunday in a game against the Kansas City Royals and will be out for 4-6 weeks.
Pujols was injured when the Royals Wilson Betemit hit a chopper up the middle. Cardinals second baseman Pete Kozma backhanded the ball and made a jump and turn throw to first which pulled Pujols off the bag who then tagged Betemit as he ran down the line and Pujols went to the ground withering in pain.
Betemit ran into Pujols arm leaving him with a fractured left forearm.
This is a devastating loss for the Cardinals, who have been battling injuries to key players all season.
Outfielder Matt Holliday was on the 15-day disabled list and also missed time due to an appendectomy. Third baseman David Freese, second baseman Skip Schumaker and pitcher Kyle McClellan have also been on the DL. In addition, pitcher Adam Wainwright was lost for the season after being injured in spring training.
Lance Berkman took over at first base after Pujols was injured and will probably continue to play the position while Pujols is out.
