Saturday night Alistair Overeem will face Fabricio Werdum in the main event of Strikeforce. Overeem the winner of the 2010 K-1 Grand Prix will place his kickboxing skills against an experienced MMA veteran in what will be a test of Overeem’s ability to adapt to a new way of fighting.

So far the results have been mixed when K-1 fighters cross over to the MMA side. Branko Cikatic, the first GP winner, couldn’t cut the level of Pride competition and hurtled into obscurity. Mirko Filipovic has used his kickboxing skills to his benefit, but Overeem could prove to be the best of the K-1 bunch.

Since moving into the heavyweight division Overeem has become a more straight up fighter than his premiere as a light heavyweight. This allows him options in the clinch. He can use his devastating knee, or he can fake the knee and place his opponent in a guillotine. Then again, his take down has improved giving him a third option and making him the most dangerous crossover yet.
