NFL Labor Talks Making Progress
With recent meetings between the players and the owners, apparently things are moving in the right direction instead of opposite directions and they are actually making progress.
Not that a new collective bargaining agreement is imminent, but the two sides are talking and working to resolve their differences.
Labor negotiations were being held at a secret location in Maryland on Tuesday which could quite possibly continue through the end of the week. Previous “secret” meetings have taken place in Chicago and New York in the last few weeks.
Unlike the meetings in Chicago and New York, the lawyers were allowed back in the meetings this week.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith are on hand at the meetings as well as several owners and players.
Details of the meeting are not being made public but people familiar with the talks are saying that the framework for a new collective bargaining agreement could be in place prior to the owners meeting in Chicago next Tuesday.
While this may be a good sign of things to come concerning the 2011 NFL season, don’t hold your breath just because these meetings seem to be moving forward and making progress. It only takes one stubborn owner or player to send it back to square one without an agreement.
So while things are looking up and the atmosphere of the negotiations has been more positive than it has been in the past and moving in the right direction, don’t start cleaning off your tailgate supplies just yet.
