Persistence Pays Off For Harrison Frazar
Written by Daniel Turner, Monday June 13 2011
If at first you don’t succeed, try 355 times. That’s what Frazar did and it finally paid off Sunday when he won his first tournament, the St. Jude Classic at Memphis. It didn’t come easy as it took a playoff to finally allow him to savor victory.
At age 40 and nursing a variety of injuries Frazar was contemplating life after the PGA Tour. In order to spend more time with his family he was considering managing events or working for the PGA. Now his win guarantees him a spot in Maui and his first appearance in Augusta for the Masters.
After dueling with Robert Karlsson in the playoff and finally vanquishing him on the third hole of sudden death Frazar did something he’d never done as a professional, accepted the tokens of victory. Since the experience was new Frazar was uncertain if he should keep the seersucker jacket or handle the trophy.
With his career being prolonged maybe he’ll have more opportunity to practice being the gracious victor.
