Miami's Final Grade; F

This is the time of the year when teachers give final grades, and if I was giving a grade to Miami, there is only one choice: F for failure.

In some cases, I might say "A for effort", or give a higher grade because this was the first year of the experiment. But this is different. When LeBron James went to Miami with Chris Bosh, they promised multiple championships, and made it clear that this was the goal for this season. They failed.

Not only that, but James appeared to be miserable during the finals. It also led to a joke about getting change for a dollar. Don't ask LeBron, he can find the first three quarters, he gets lost in the fourth.

For Dallas, they won their first championship in franchise history. In the past 30 years, the same teams keep winning. Since 1980, the Lakers have won 10 titles, the Bulls won 6, the Celtics and Spurs won 4 each, the Pistons won 3 and the Rockets won 2. The 76ers won in 1983 and the Heat won in 2006.

Had the LeBron James plan worked, the Heat would have increased their win total on the same group of eight teams that have won in the last 30 years. Instead, the Mavericks add their name to the list of three one-time winners in that period.

Dallas also was able to once again be "America's Team". Usually that seems to be a name for the Cowboys. But people were rooting against the Heat by about a 4-1 margin. And they might throw a parade for the Mavs in Cleveland.
