Spain Beats USA 4-0 in Gold Cup Tune-up
In a tune-up game for the United States, World Cup champion Spain dominated the game in the first half and beat the United States 4-0 on Saturday.
Santi Cazorla scored twice for Spain in a game that avenged a loss in the semifinals of the 2009 Confederations Cup, when the Americans beat them 2-0 to snap Spain’s 35-game winning streak.
Fernando Torres also scored for Spain, which started just six of the 11 players they started the World Cup final with in July of last year.
Just a bit shy of a sellout, the 64,121 fans on hand were the largest crowd to ever watch a U.S. soccer game in New England.
A majority of the fans on hand were red-clad supporters of Spain, and most of the fans there to cheer on the United States lost their enthusiasm after falling behind 3-0 in a 13-minute span in the first half.
