Angels Plane makes Emergency Landing
The Angels' flight from Kansas City to Orange County on Wednesday experienced possible hydraulic problems and had to make an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport.
Because of the possible hydraulic problems, the Delta charter pilot and crew were not sure they could bring the plane to a safe stop if something overheated when braking so the flight was diverted to LAX where the runways are longer.
Fire engines were standing by as the Boeing 737 landed and according to Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor, they did not have a problem and no injuries were reported.
About 45 minutes before they were supposed to land, the pilot let the 51 players and staff members know that there was a problem and the crew did a great job of keeping everyone calm.
Team spokesman Ryan Cavinder, who was on the flight, said that the mood on the plane was serious and quiet as the flight approached the runway.
There were no crash precaution procedures and the team all applauded once the plane came to a safe stop.
According to several players and coaches, the crew did an excellent job of informing them of the problem, what they were doing and keeping everyone on an even keel before the landing.
"Glad to be on the ground safe," Angels pitcher Rich Thompson Tweeted after the plane landed safely. "Pilot did a hell of a job bringing the bird down!"
Once they were on the ground, the team was bused to Angels Stadium in Anaheim.
