Lakers Hire Mike Brown as New Coach
The Los Angeles Lakers have reached an agreement with Mike Brown to become their next coach and take over for retired Hall of Fame coach Phil Jackson.
Jackson retired this year after the Lakers were swept by the Dallas Mavericks in the second round of the playoffs.
According to reports, Brown will receive a four-year, $18 million contract with a team option for the final year.
Brown went 272-138 in five seasons as coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, led the team to the 2007 NBA Finals, and won the Coach of the Year award in 2009. He was fired last summer.
Brown is known for his defense as his Cavaliers teams were among the best units in the NBA, although his offensive systems have been criticized.
While in Cleveland, Brown had and good and bad relationship with superstar LeBron James and now he will have to deal with Kobe Bryant.
