Randy "Macho Man" Savage Dies in Car Crash
Randy "Macho Man" Savage, the professional wrestler known for his raspy voice and the sunglasses and bandanas he wore in the ring died in a car crash in Florida on Friday. He was 58.
According to the police reports, Savage was driving a Jeep Wrangler when he lost control around 9:25 a.m. and veered over the raised concrete median divider and collided head-on with a tree.
Savage’s legal name was Randy Mario Poffo and police suspect that he suffered a medical problem before the crash, but will not know for sure until an autopsy is performed.
Savage was famous for his "Macho Man" nickname and his raspy voiced "Oooh Yeah!" catchphrase and had legendary rivalries with Hulk Hogan, Ricky Steamboat and Ric Flair.
Before getting into professional wrestling, Savage was a minor league catcher for the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds in the 1970s.
