Vikings interested in Broncos QB Kyle Orton
With Brett Favre actually retiring, we think, the Minnesota Vikings are in the market for a starting quarterback and the Broncos Kyle Orton is in their sights.
As much as the Vikings would like to start rookie quarterback Christian Ponder from the get go, throw him into the fire and let him learn on the go, they realize that if they want to win right away, that is probably not the way to go.
With the lockout in place, teams will probably not have the luxury of bringing in a rookie quarterback and spending quality time with them to get them up to the speed of the NFL game this season.
With the possibility of only a week or three before the actual games start this season, throwing a rookie QB into the fire would be the blueprint for disaster.
With the Broncos ultimately looking to Tim Tebow as their quarterback, Kyle Orton may be a perfect choice for the Vikings to pursue.
Orton has starting experience with the Broncos and the Bears and has proven to be a winner on a team with a good running game and a good defense, and the Vikings have both.
It would be a good move for the Vikings to bring in Orton as he would not cost a lot of money or draft picks to acquire.
Orton could be a good bridge and mentor for Ponder, which would give him a chance to learn the NFL game and develop without throwing him into the fire.
