Felix Hernandez Wins 2010 Cy Young Award
Written by Christopher Corazon, Thursday November 18 2010
Felix Hernandez won the AL Cy Young award. He won with a 13-12 record, which is a low total for a Cy Young winner as pitchers usually have more wins. He played for the Seattle Mariners. The Mariners wanted to build a team on pitching and defense; they started the year with Hernandez and Cliff Lee, then quickly fell out of contention because they didn’t have enough offense.
Hernandez received 21 of the 28 first place votes, while Tampa Bay’s David Price got four votes and CC Sebathia got the other three firs place votes.
Other candidates that could have received consideration for the award were John Lester and Clay Buchholz of the Red Sox, Trevor Cahill of the Oakland Athletics, and Cliff Lee of the Texas Rangers.
