Seahawks Take Over First in NFC West
The Seattle Seahawks took over first place in the NFC West with a 22-10 win over the divisional rival Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
It was a sloppy game for both teams as penalties, turnovers, and mistakes continued to cause problems.
The Seahawks had 10 penalties for 95 yards and the Cardinals had 5 penalties for 32 yards.
The Cardinals lost four fumbles on the day and the Seahawks lost one.
Seattle’s kicker Orlando Mare actually kicked nine field goals, but four of those were taken off the board because of penalties.
Seattle’s only offensive touchdown came on a 2-yard throw from quarterback Matt Hasselbeck to receiver Mike Williams in the second quarter after the Seahawks got the ball at the Arizona 2-yard line following a muffed punt.
Running back Beanie Wells scored the only touchdown for the Cardinals on a two yard run in the third quarter.
Hasselbeck threw for 192 yards and did not throw an interception for the second straight week.
Coming off a career day against the Chicago Bears last week, Mike Williams did even better this week with 11 catches for 87 yards and his first touchdown since 2006.
In his second game since being traded by the Buffalo Bills to the Seahawks, running back Marshawn Lynch carried 24 times for 89 yards. Because of penalties, he had 39 yards in runs brought back on holding calls against Seahawks right tackle Sean Locklear.
In a division that was bunched up at the top, the Seahawks are now in first place by themselves in head coach Pete Carroll’s first year at the helm.
