Giants Win The Pennant
Written by Christopher Corazon, Saturday October 23 2010
In the end, there were many reasons Philadelphia did not win the NLCS. But the bottom line is quite simple, it's hard to win when you don't hit the ball.
The Phillies had the tying run on second, and the winning run on first. But Ryan Howard did not swing the bat at a called third strike. Howard hit his last home run of the season on September 18, and had 0 RBIs in the playoffs.
The Phillies were able to get two runs in the first inning off Jonathan Sanchez, but they could have had more. A long fly ball by Jayson Werth was a sacrifice fly, but a slight change in the stroke and it could have been a three run homer.
Juan Uribe hit the game winning home run in the 8th to break a 2-2 tie. He also drove in the winning run in game 4. But the MVP of the series went to Cody Ross. Ross had 3 home runs in the series.
The most famous call that said "the Giants win the Pennant" was when Bobby Thomson hit the shot heard 'round the world in 1951. Thomson died earlier this year. Kind of makes you think about what might happen in the afterlife....

Thinking about it some more, Steinbrenner died too, and could not help the Yankees from the afterlife, which convinces me even more about this theory
