U.S. Medal Winning Open Water Swimmer Dies During Race
U.S. national team medal winning open water swimmer Fran Crippen told his coach that he was not feeling well during the FINA Open Water 10-kilometer World Cup in Fujairah, in the United Arab Emirates and died during the race on Saturday.
The 26-year-old failed to finish the race and was found in the water two hours later as several swimmers and a dive team returned to the water to search for him after he failed to arrive at the finish.
He was brought to shore and transported to Fujairah Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
