Giants-Rangers World Series would be good for baseball

With both the San Francisco Giants and the Texas Rangers currently leading their league championship series 3-2, a World Series between these two franchises would be good for baseball.

Not only would it be good for baseball, it would be good for baseball fans. After all, variety is the spice of life and personally if the New York Yankees or the Philadelphia Phillies, or both teams once again end up going to the World Series again this year, it will just be a case of déjà vu and the overall interest is just not going to be there.

After all, The Philles have represented the National League for the past two seasons, winning in 2008 against the Tampa Bay Rays and losing to the New York Yankees last season.

A third year in row for the Phillies in the big series would probably upset many a baseball fan out there except for the Phillies fans. Enough is enough already, Go Giants!

As far as the Yankees are concerned, need I say more? Nobody ever wants the Yankees to win except for the Yankees fans and when they lose, the majority of baseball fans are happy. The Yankees are the team we love to hate, especially when it comes to the playoffs.

The last thing that baseball fans want to see is the Yankees in the World Series again. I mean come on, they have been in the World Series more then any other team in the history of the game in making 40 appearances and winning 27 times.

In the American League, the Boston Red Sox are second with 11 appearances, winning 7 times.

In the National League the St. Louis Cardinals lead with 17 World Series appearances winning 10 times.

Back to the present, in the last 14 years alone, the Yankees have been in the World Series 7 times, winning five times. Enough is enough already, Go Rangers!

The Giants have not been in the World Series since 2002 and have not won since 1954 when they were still in New York.

The Rangers have never been in the World Series and as a matter of fact, this season was the first time in franchise history that they even won a playoff series.

The bottom line is that a San Francisco Giants vs. the Texas Rangers World Series would be the best thing for baseball.

Sorry Phillies and Yankees fans!

I'm surprised you had to look at the ratings to know they'd be low. It is pretty sad that some self-appointed "baseball" fans would rather see inferior competition involving teams that USED to be the best. People can downplay the Giants all they want. I've said all along, if the Giants get in the playoffs, there is NO MORE dangerous team. Proof. Someday America will wake up, maybe. Phillies in 5? Almost. Rangers in 5? Not gonna happen either. Don't quit your day job.

I noticed that the ratings for Game 1 of the World Series were down 25 percent from the year before. You know, when the Phillies played the Yankees. Shocking.

Yes, but let's make sure to not credit anything the other team did to prevent hits with runners in scoring position... Besides, I don't remember SF lighting up the scoreboard when they had RISP. Our pitching was just a little better than yours, that is the bottom line. I knew it going in, you know it now. Tough pill to swallow, but hey, your Eagles are looking good... For an NFC team...

Who is this MC Homer Clown? Anyway, Halladay was 1-1, Oswalt was dominant in game 2 then not so much in relief in Game 4 (just like Lincecum in Game6 by the way), then pitched well again in Game 6. And Hamels was OK, Cain was just better. For the NLCS, the Phillies ERA was 3.08, Giants 3.06. The Phils scored 20 runs, Giants scored 19. The difference was the Phils inability to hit with runners in scoring position.

Hello my friends. Just stopping by to "say hey". Giants were underdogs (in some circles) against a pathetic Braves squad and much bigger 'dogs to Philly. They head into the World Series to face the vaunted Rangers offense, again, as underdogs. That's fine, it makes winning that much sweeter. I told you Dub, don't sleep on SF. They always just seem to find a way. BTW, what happened to the untouchable Doc, automatic Oswalt, and your own girly man, Hamels? H2gO home!

I don't care about ratings, and neither does MLB (how else can you explain TBS?) And I do not think that Yankees winning is good for baseball... when they lose it shows that you can not buy the World Series year in and year out...

CC, I totally understand that everyone SHOULD hate the Yankees. I certainly do. I'm just saying that the best thing for MLB would be a Yanks - Phillies Series because of the ratings and interest across the country for two marquee teams. That won't happen now that the Yanks got their asses kicked, so we'll just have to be happy with the Phillies/Clif Lee stories.

Amen Nolan you are preaching to the choir. Sorry B-dub, the Phils would not bother me but I can't wait until the Yankees are out. Still watching as a Nationals/Red Sox fan

Did you write this just to piss me off Nolan? Come on now. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, outside of San Francisco and Texas will watch a World Series with the Giants and Rangers. Look at past ratings when small market teams are in the WS. They are always low. It's a good thing the Yanks and Phils are going to make it back to the Series so the biggest names in baseball can be back on the biggest stage. What interesting stories are involved with Texas and SF? Who has the better drugs, Hamilton or Lincecum? Barry Zito is an overpriced stiff? Cliff Lee is great? Exactly how fat is that slob Kung Fu Panda? Yeah, those are much better than the Hated Yankees and the Phillies with Utley, Howard and H2O(Halladay, Hamels and Oswalt). Sorry, but a Giants - Rangers World Series would NOT be good for baseball, financially or in fan interest. It's just a fact.
