Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas was fined $50,000 by the team for faking a knee injury on Tuesday, according to several reports.

Tuesday morning Arenas told the team that his knee was sore and because of it he did not play in that nights game against the Atlanta Hawks.

After the game Arenas told reporters that his knee was fine and that he had faked the injury and told the team it was sore so that guard Nick Young could get more playing time.

During his additional playing time because of Arena’s faked injured knee, he scored 24 points against the Hawks.

On Wednesday, the Wizards fined Arenas for his deception.

After Wednesday's practice, at first Arenas said he was not talking but then came forward and gave reporters a halfhearted apology for his actions.

"I screwed up again, so I just want to say sorry," Arenas said. "I wasn't really thinking that this was going to be another media outburst. It's like everything I do now, someone, tit for tat, tries to blow it out of proportion."

In December of 2009, Arenas admitted to having unloaded firearms in his locker at Verizon Center and that he had surrendered them to team security.

In doing so, Arenas not only violated NBA rules against bringing firearms into an arena, he also violated D.C. ordinances as well.

In January of this year, it was also reported that Arenas and teammate Javaris Crittenton had unloaded guns in the Wizards' locker room during a Christmas Eve argument regarding gambling debts.

Arenas was charged with carrying a pistol without a license, a violation of Washington D.C.'s gun-control laws

Arenas was suspended for most of the 2009-10 season because of the original handgun violations.
