LSU Doesn’t Want To Trip Over McNeese State
Written by Daniel Turner, Friday October 15 2010
At 6-0 LSU could look at Saturday’s game against McNeese State as a gateway to 7-0 and, although that outcome is the most likely, they are going to great lengths to remember their struggles against smaller schools.
In 2008 the Tigers faced Troy after absorbing a loss to Alabama and almost made it two in a row. The Bayou Bengals had to overcome a shocking 31-3 deficit in the third quarter to secure the win.
In ’09 they went back to back against state teams, UL-Lafayette followed by Louisiana Tech and were almost upset by Tech in a 24-16 game.
Coach Les Miles wants to continue to schedule home grown schools because he feels it helps both fan bases, but he would prefer to not see a promising season shattered by an upset.
That’s why he’s spent the week reminding his players anything can happen and Saturday’s game counts just as much as an SEC match up. Considering if the outcome were negative, it may be even more important.
