No. 1 Alabama was knocked from the unbeaten ranks and probably the No. 1 ranking on Saturday with a 35-21 loss to the also unbeaten South Carolina Gamecocks.

The loss snapped a 19 game winning streak for the Crimson Tide.

South Carolina had a 14-3 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. The Gamecocks took a 21-9 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Alabama did make it a seven point game at the start of the first quarter with a 51 yard touchdown pass from Greg McElroy to Darius Hanks, but South Carolina scored a touchdown with 7:37 left in the game to put it away.

Stephen Garcia was 17 of 20 for 201 yards with 3 touchdowns and one interception for the Gamecocks.

For the Crimson Tide, McElroy was 27 of 34 for 315 yards and two touchdowns but was sacked 7 times in the game.

South Carolina held Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram to 47 yards on 11 carries and no touchdowns. The Crimson Tide was forced to forget about their running game and count on the pass after falling behind in the first quarter.

After the loss, it will be interesting to see where the Crimson Tide are ranked in the BCS standings on Monday.

Ohio State, Oregon and Boise State, ranked 2-3-4 respectively remained undefeated and should move up in the rankings barring another major upset if Toledo can beat Boise State on Saturday night.

Alabama could drop as far as ninth with all the teams 1-8 all being undefeated.
