Reds Clinch NL Central
Written by Christopher Corazon, Wednesday September 29 2010
The Reds beat the Astros 3-2 on Tuesday to clinch the NL Central. Jay Bruce hit a home run to win the game and secure the division over the St. Louis Cardinals. ESPN's Colin Cowherd had complained that the Reds won many of their games against inferior teams in the division like the Cubs, Brewers, Astros, and Pirates. But the fact remains that the Cardinals are in the same division, and did not take advantage of that opportunity the way that Cincinnati did.
It will be the first trip to the playoffs for the Reds since 1995. The Reds won the World Series in 1990. On the same night that the Reds clinched the NL Central, the Yankees and Rays secured playoff spots. The Rays beat the Orioles while the Yankees defeated the Blue Jays. The winner of the AL East is still yet to be determined, the other team will be the Wild Card in the AL.
