Florida Gators Experience Growing Pains
For the first half of Saturday’s game against Florida and South Florida it appeared that the Gators could join the ranks of the upset. As their offense stuttered they seemed primed to become another powerhouse knocked down by the little guy. Then, the alarm clock went off and the Gators came to life.
The coaching staff was quick to acknowledge they were part of the problem. They were calling plays that had been designed for Tim Tebow and this is a team that is learning to live without their former star. So, instead of shoveling the ball off they threw downfield and used the air attack to set up a ground game.
As their confidence grew the Gators saw a new star emerge in Jeff Demps who ran the ball eight times for 126 yards in the second half.
Coach Urban Meyer said the team is more blue collar and traditional. Whatever it is the Gators are, they seemed to become more comfortable in the second half. Now we’ll see how they do when they start the SEC part of their schedule.
