Boise State has been the school filled with controversy for the past couple of seasons.

Last season the Broncos were undefeated and many thought that they should have been in contention for the national title, but because they are not a BCS school and supposed strength of schedule, they were not given that chance or even thought of as champion regardless of record.

This year they have started out with a bit of respect as they were ranked #3 coming into the season. Yet there were a lot of traditionalists that felt that ranking would not last any further then Boise States first game against #10 Virginia Tech on Monday night.

During the first quarter, it did not even look like a game as the Broncos rolled to a 17-0 lead over the Hokies.

But the Hokies came back in the second quarter to be down only 3 points as they scored 14 unanswered points, and  then seemed to take charge in the third quarter when they took a 27-26 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Hokies took a 30-26 lead and it looked as if they were going to make the naysayer fans that thought Boise State did not belong look good.

But the Boise State defense held Virginia Tech and quarterback Tyrod Taylor to get the ball back with just over two minutes to go in the game and no timeouts.

Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore had ice in his veins as he led the Broncos and with the help of a personal foul threw the game winning touchdown pass to Austin Pettis with 1:14 still left on the clock to take a 33-30 lead.

A lot fingernails were chewed off as Virginia Tech still had a chance to at least get into field goal range and tie the game sending it to overtime.

But the Boise State defense help tough as the Hokies went four and out and Moore took a knee to end it.

On Monday night, the Boise State Broncos proved they belong on the same football field as the big boys.
