College Football Week 1: Full Of Mismatches

On Monday Night, Boise State will play Virginia Tech in a match between top 10 teams. Virginia Tech coach Frank Beemer commented that the game has given his team something to focus on, but admitted that he would not mind having some kind of a preseason warm-up Beemer's team faces the 5th ranked Broncos, last season they opened against 5th ranked Alabama.

Other teams take a different approach. There were many games played between BCS schools and FCS schools. Even though the games were a bit of a mismatch, there were some interesting subplots in these games.

Boston College 38 Weber State 20

The game was not close, but it was significant because of the return of Mark Herzlich. He was diagnosed with cancer in the spring of 2009 and missed the following season with a medical red shirt. He has beaten the cancer, and a foot injury that he suffered during the come back. It's an inspirational story of triumph.

Virginia 34 Richmond 13

Mike London's first game as head coach at Virginia had even more significance because of the opponent. London graduated from Richmond, and also was the head coach there before coming to the Cavaliers.

Temple 31 Villanova 24

Villanova won the FCS playoffs last year, and beat Temple in the battle of Philadelphia, or what is called the Mayor's Cup. This year the loss brings an end to their winning streak, which was the longest current streak among FCS teams.
