Storm Clean Up on Awards
Written by Daniel Turner, Thursday September 02 2010
The Seattle Storm season continues to get better. Today forward Lauren Jackson was named league MVP and Brian Agler received the Coach of the Year Award. The Storm announced plans to honor both award winners tonight when they open their Western Conference Finals series against the Phoenix Mercury.
For Jackson this is her third MVP award tying her with Sheryl Swoopes and Lisa Leslie as the only three time winners in WNBA history. A year ago Jackson was recovering from surgery to repair her broken back.
This is Agler’s first Coach of the Year award in the WNBA, but he had won one previously in the defunct ABL.
Both Jackson and Agler credited the team, particularly point guard Sue Bird, as the reason why they could win the awards. Agler also added he would happily give his award up to win the WNBA Championship.
