2006 BCS Championship Revisited
Written by Travis Pulver, Tuesday August 24 2010
Four years ago both players were on top of their game when they went head to head in one of the most exciting college football games in history. Monday the stakes and circumstance were a lot different. This time it was just a preseason contest and while both were the starters for their respective teams, only one of them has a firm hold on his job.
Vince Young led the Tennessee Titans to a 24-10 victory over Matt Leinart and the Arizona Cardinals in the preseason home opener for the Titans.
Neither played much, but once again it was Young that shined of the two. Young played the first four series for the Titans completing nine of 13 passes and 128 yards leading the Titans to 10 points. Leinart did not do nearly as well completing four of six passes for 28 yards in the three series that he played, all of which were three and outs.
Titans head coach Jeff Fisher was happy with what he saw out of Young.
"He felt excited about playing," Titans coach Jeff Fisher said of Young. "He was prepared, focused and made plays with his legs, made plays with his arm and was really good on the line of scrimmage as well." (ESPN)
Leinart on the other hand has to hold off former Cleveland Browns quarterback, Derek Anderson; he completed 11 of 19 passes on the night for 105 yards.
Tennessee next faces off against the Carolina Panthers in preseason action on Saturday, August 28th; Arizona is scheduled to play the Chicago Bears.
