De’ja vu for LeGarrette Blount
Written by Travis Pulver, Thursday August 19 2010
The Tennessee Titans knew what they were getting when they signed running back LeGarette Blount out of Oregon—a feisty, powerful, talented running back with some control issues.
Blount made headlines at the beginning of the college football season in 2009 for punching a member of the Boise State Broncos after the game. The momentary loss of self-control cost him the majority of his senior season not to mention millions of dollars in his first contract.
Apparently he has not quite learned his lesson.
In practice Wednesday night he lost his helmet for the second consecutive play. After the second play he ended up getting into a pushing and shoving match with defensive end Eric Bakhtiari that ended with him punching Bakhtiari in the helmet.
According to Blount he thought that his helmet was ripped off on purpose. With the new rule that ends the play once the ball carriers helmet comes off, Blount got frustrated when he thought someone was trying to prematurely kill the play. He quickly apologized to head coach Jeff Fisher for his actions since he had promised Fisher his volatile days were done.
"That was my past. It just came up again. I got into one of those situations where the defense pushed me too far. With training camp and everything going the way it is and being as intense as it is and me being a rookie, it was just something I shouldn't have done. But I did it." (ESPN)
Fisher was understanding and remarked that the apology was unnecessary.
"…Is that the first punch you've seen in camp this year? No. I'm not disappointed whatsoever….” (ESPN)
