Buc’s Derrick Ward Has a lot of work to do
Last year the Tampa Bay Buccaneers picked up free agent running back Derrick Ward after he had a career year for the NY Giants rushing for 1,015 yards.
The Buc’s were hoping for the same result with their regular running backs, Cadillac Williams and Earnest Graham rebounding from serious injuries, but Ward has just not produced as expected and according to the Buc’s Report, he is fighting for a job and might not even make the final 53 man roster for the season.
As the report put it, the next three weeks could define Derrick Ward’s NFL future.
Last season, once Williams showed that he was his old self again, Ward became a second thought.
His effort Saturday night at
Williams is once again 100% healthy so he will probably be the starter hands down, and right now Kareem Huggins is looking like he belongs as well after being the Buc’s leading rusher in the game. Higgins had 8 rushes for 55 yards with a 6.9 yard average.
The Bucs have vowed to go with the best 53 players coming out of camp so regardless of how much GM Mark Dominik has invested in Ward, he has a lot of ground to make up and very little time to do it.
