Seahawks Might Welcome a Quarterback Controversy
Written by Daniel Turner, Monday August 16 2010
For a team that has muddled through it last two seasons stability might be a virtue, but the Seahawks appear open to some shakeups. Coach Pete Carroll assumed the head coaching position by stating that nothing was certain and no one had a position nailed down. Still, most fans did not see starting QB Matt Hasselbeck being challenged, even when the team gave up draft choices to San Diego for Charlie Whitehurst.
After Saturday’s preseason opener it might prove interesting to watch how both QBs perform. While Hasselbeck seemed uncomfortable and out of sync while completing 4 of 10 passes for 26 yards and no TDs, Whitehurst looked to be in charge as he tossed two TDs in the 20-18 victory over the Titans.
Carroll expected Whitehurst to perform telling reporters. "We really thought we saw enough of Charlie to make a really good evaluation. ... Charlie's going to really help us. Nothing he's done has told us anything but that."
Perhaps some QB controversy will light a similar fire under Hasselbeck.
