Padres Make Jonathan Sanchez a Liar

Looking towards the weekend series with the San Diego Padres after his loss to the Atlanta Braves last Sunday, San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Jonathan Sanchez had promised that the Giants would sweep the Padres.

He could not have been more wrong.

Sanchez lost his own match-up Friday against Clayton Richard, 3-2. The Giants rebounded the following night to take the game in the 11th inning of another 3-2 contest, but it would be the performance by two-time Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum on Sunday that surprised fans.

On Sunday, the Padres got out early on the Giants’ ace and never looked back.

Lincecum failed to last four innings, falling short by one out, giving up eight hits, three walks, and six runs (five earned) for his third loss in a row and seventh of the year. Of the 11 outs that he did get, six were strike outs. San Diego won the game 8-2.

San Diego pitcher Wade LeBlanc got his seventh win of the season to help the Padres extend their division lead over the Giants to 3 ½ games.
