Urban Meyer has all coaches undergo physicals

According to a report on ESPN.com, Florida coach Urban Meyer had all of his assistant coaches undergo "executive physicals" because he did not want them to ignore their health like he did for so many years.

Meyer resigned in late December last year after he had chest pains and was rushed to the hospital. Although he changed his mind the next day and decided to take a leave of absence instead of retiring from coaching.

He was diagnosed with esophageal spasms and he is now taking prescription medication.

Because of the scare he had, Meyer wanted to make sure that his staff was all in good shape and after spring practice in April, he had them all take the examinations.

The extensive checkups included blood panels, stress tests and physical exams and for many of the coaches, they had never been through such detailed exams before.

"I'd never had one like that before," co-defensive coordinator Chuck Heater said Tuesday at Florida's annual Media Day.

After the examinations, Meyer said that one of his assistants "had an issue that turned out to be very fixable."

Meyer took a step back in January as he did not hit the road recruiting even though he was still working every day through national signing day. In March, he returned for spring practice but he did get a little vacation time in between.

He went to Hawaii with his wife, saw the Pope in Rome, went to Israel, went to Augusta Ga., with his daughter to check out the Masters golf tournament and even went to a Tampa Bay Rays baseball game.

Meyer said that he learned something through the whole ordeal.
