Vikings working hard, Favre is Not

While the Minnesota Vikings players are sweating it out through training camp in Minnesota, their maybe, maybe not quarterback Brett Favre is not there to share in the perils and sweat of camp.

So what else is knew? It is business as usual for the Vikings.

Quarterbacks Tarvaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels are once again taking all the snaps and doing all the work while trying to prepare for the season, even though they both know that a week before the season, Favre will probably stroll in and take over.

Once again, they do all the hard work; get relegated to the bench, and pretty boy Brett gets all the glory.

Yet they do not seem upset, at least on the outside looking in.

They are used to it and say it has not been a distraction even through all the twists and turns this week.

Favre's agent, Bus Cook, said Wednesday that the 40-year-old signal-caller will play if his surgically repaired ankle is healthy enough. That news came out less than 24 hours after a report saying that Favre texted teammates and Vikings' brass that he was planning to retire.

Amazing how a story can change when a $7 million dollar raise and free reign to show up whenever is offered all of sudden. Go figure!

Jackson, who would be Minnesota's starting quarterback if Favre did not return, seems comfortable of the situation again.

"It's kind of part of my life now. I actually might miss it," Jackson said with a smile. "It's his decision. He deserves however long he takes to make the decision. It's on him, and I'm just going to come out here and try to get better."

Jackson said he doesn't blame his teammates for wanting Favre, one of the best to play the position.

"Brett's a great guy. I'm not going to take away anything from him," Jackson said. "He's a Hall of Fame quarterback. I learned a lot from him last year. Hopefully if I get my chance this year, I can keep the team going."

From the inside out, you know damn well that Jackson wants the job because he is doing all the work, and deservedly so.

I don't have a problem with Favre making a decision. What I don't like is the special treatment he gets to show up to camp weeks after it started. He's held teams hostage four or five times already. That's not what a good teammate does. Either you're in from day one or stay out.

I disagree, I don't give a rats ass how old he is or what he has done in the past. If he wants to play, he should be at camp with his teammates and not throwing passes to HS kids for an hour a week and then sitting on his butt in an air conditioned home while his teammates are working their butts off in the heat.

Many people are ticked off with Brett Favre, and I can see their many reasons for feeling that way. But in his defense, I would like to point out that the guy is 40 years old, had one of the best seasons of his CAREER last year and made it to the NFC Championship. No, I am a Baltimore Ravens fan and have no love for the Vikings really, but I do however respect Favre and his ongoing dilemmas are not changing that. He is not practicing simply because he hates Spring workouts. He is however throwing with some high school kids(imagine the thrill those guys have when the go out for a rocket pass from #4!!)and is in some regards helping the community. Brett Favre holds almost all QB records and is in my mind the greatest QB ever, I feel we should respect whatever choice he makes yet again and root for him to end his career when he is happy/ready to do so.
