Richard Seymour Leads by Example
In a day and age when veteran talent is more known for holding out of camp or coming down with some mysterious injury that keeps them on the bike for weeks it is refreshing to see guys do the unexpected.
On Tuesday the Oakland Raiders rookies and inexperienced players reported to camp and the first person off the bus was anything but a rookie and is definitely not inexperienced—five time Pro Bowler Richard Seymour.
"Camp is the foundation that you build your success on for the season…During the season, you're spending so much time with game plans and focusing in on your opponents that you really don't have the time to work on a lot of individual things. This is my time where I really get into me and focus in on the things I need to do to make myself a better player. Come in and knock some of the rust off and be ready to go." (ESPN)
Seymour joined the Raiders just days before the beginning of the 2009 season, coming over in a trade with the New England Patriots. He looked good getting two sacks in his first game, but only got two more the rest of the season.
Over the span of his ten year career Seymour has made 43 sacks and accumulated more than 400 tackles.
In 2010 he should receive some help in improving the Raiders dreadful run defense. Rookie linebacker Rolando McClain from Alabama should provide some assistance as should defensive lineman Lamarr Houston from Texas.
