With Cleveland Browns defensive lineman Shaun Rogers going into a 12 month diversion program as a result of his arrest for trying to take a loaded weapon onto a plane last April, and also facing possible suspension in the NFL, he did something to help the police.

Fox 8 News in Cleveland reports that Rogers called 911 on Thursday to report an erratic driver he saw on the road.  Rogers stayed on the line and followed the car, which swerved off the road multiple times. Eventually the vehicle in question stopped in the middle of a busy highway and Rogers told the dispatcher that the driver turned off his lights.

The back end of the car was sticking out into traffic in the fast lanes of the highway and Rogers positioned himself behind the vehicle and turned on his emergency flashers to make other drivers aware that there was an emergency on the road.

“I don't know what would've happened had he not done that," Middleburg Heights Police Chief John Maddox said.

Eventually, 20-year-old John Nykiel was charged with a DUI and operating an unsafe vehicle.

"I thought his actions were above and beyond and I wanted to express to him as chief of police how much we appreciate what he did that night he helped keep Middleburg Heights safe," Maddox said.

Good work, Shaun.  These days, it is nice to be able to write about a professional athlete who does something on the right side of the law.
