Rogers Centre Rolls Out a New Carpet
Written by Daniel Turner, Friday July 16 2010
Manchester United and Celtic FC are getting the royal treatment for tonight’s friendly in Toronto. Forget about rolling out the red carpet for Six Alex Ferguson’s side and their Scottish foes. The Rogers Centre has rolled out brand new sod for the pitch.
Yesterday 18 semis delivered Kentucky bluegrass sod that was laid down for tonight’s friendly. Before the Blue Jays can get any ideas regarding easing their aching bones and joints by getting off of their synthetic carpet the sod will leave shortly after tonight’s match concludes.
While the pitch is deserving of stardom several big names will be missing from Man U for their North American tour. Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick, Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic and Ji-Sung Park all received a month off after their World Cup participation.
Having finished out of trophy contention for the first time in seven years Celtic will be trotting out a revamped lineup for the tour. Included will be recent signings Joe Ledley, Efrain Jaurez, Charlie Mulgrew and Cha Du-Ri.
