Soccer Returns To Fenway Park
Written by Christopher Corazon, Thursday July 15 2010
On July 21, two European teams will play in an exhibition at Fenway Park in Boston. The Celtic Football Club of Scotland will take on the Portugese Sporting Clube de Portugal. The Celtic team gives Boston fans an obvious rooting interest, while the Portugese team name seems to come from the department of the redundancy department.
This will be the 19th time soccer has been played at Fenway, although the last time was when Pele played in 1968. It will be the third sport played this year at Fenway. The Red Sox play their home games there, and the Bruins beat the Flyers in the Winter Classic on January 1. Fenway Park also used to host the Boston Patriots before they moved down the road to Foxborough.
