Streaking Gators
Written by Daniel Turner, Thursday July 15 2010
The Florida Gators may be short their inspirational leader, but they are still anxious to return to the gridiron. Considering their accomplishments it’s easy to understand why they are chomping at the bit and marking off the days until their September 4 opener when they host Miami Ohio in Gainesville.
The Gators are coming off of back to back 13 win seasons making them the only team in FBS history to pull off that feat. They are also the only team to win 13 in three out of four seasons. The Gators are also on a run of 19 consecutive bowl appearances. That’s the second longest consecutive streak in the nation. Let’s not forget that two seasons back the Gators took it all when they won the BCS title in Miami.
With this resume it is not surprising that Florida is the preseason favorite to win the SEC Eastern Division. Additionally, senior offensive lineman Mike Pouncey and junior cornerback Janoris Jenkins were chosen as Blue Ribbon Yearbook preseason All-SEC selections. In short, the Gators look like they can continue to add to their streak.
