A number of professional football players have gotten into a bit of trouble over the last few months. As the legal system has finished up with them they have had to face an even bigger authority—the commissioner of the National Football League.

With Cleveland Browns defensive lineman Shaun Rogers going into a 12 month diversion program as a result of his arrest for trying to take a loaded weapon onto a plane last April it will now be time for him to answer to the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello had this to say in reference to Shaun Rogers and his case:

''Now that the matter has been resolved in court, it is being reviewed under our policies.'' (PFT)

While there has not been a conviction, entry into the diversion program is enough to warrant action from the league.

Browns president Mike Holmgren has been expecting Rogers to get suspended and says he would be surprised if Rogers is not suspended.

"I think he messed up and he knows it…But I like how he's working. Hopefully, he won't make the same mistake again." (PFT)

Rogers says that he simply forgot that the gun was in his bag. As part of the program, Rogers will take a ten hour course on weapons along with 40 hours of community service. He charges will be dropped when he finishes both.

The Detroit Lions made Rogers the 30th pick of the 2001 draft after taking him in the second round. In two seasons in Cleveland he has made 111 tackles and 6 ½ sacks.
