Terrell Owens Arguing Troublemaker Image

Unlike some of the NFL’s “golden boys,” Terrell Owens would like to point out that he's never been disciplined by the NFL for off-field conduct.

"I've never been in any trouble. I know right from wrong. I try to make the right choices and judgments when I'm out in the public."

Owens is still on the free agent market and he is seriously worried that the perception that he is a troublemaker and a cancer in the locker room is swaying teams from giving him a shot this season.

"It's not like I can't play," Owens said. "There is some type of influence that they're making in the minds of teams and owners and GMs."

A perception that Owens believes he disproved with his good behavior with the Bills last season, although a disappointing season statistically wise.

"There were a number of times where prior I probably would have reacted, said something I wasn't supposed to say," Owens said on Tuesday. "I really had some restraint, very patient. It's almost like I didn't play last year. "

His production during his one season in Buffalo may also be scaring teams away as he had 55 catches for 829 yards and five touchdowns and the uncertainty surrounding the collective bargaining agreement is not helping either.

Training camps around the NFL open in about two weeks, but Owens made it sound as if he may prefer waiting to sign with a team until after the start of the preseason. Sounds as if Owens wants to pull a Favre and come in as late as possible, although Favre at least has a team to eventually report too.

Owens promises that he will make sure to be in excellent shape. And he believes that training camp is too long anyway just like a lot of players do.

"Now they feel like I'm slowing down or I can't play," Owens said. "But those numbers can be deceiving."

He would also like to point out that the Bills' coaching staff upheaval and offensive line injuries were not exactly conducive to offensive domination.

Owens expressed confidence that once the season begins that he will be playing somewhere in the NFL.

"I feel like I have enough talent to be a starter on any team," he said. "That's what's so frustrating."
