JaMarcus Russell’s downfall his own doing

Former number one overall NFL draft pick JaMarcus Russell has to be considered one, if not “the” biggest draft bust in the history of the league.

And he has nobody to blame but himself. He did this to himself, nobody else.

After winning a national championship with a stellar performance, it looked as if Russell’s best performances were ahead of him and a promising and successful NFL career seemed to be a sure thing.

It is too bad that Russell thought it was a sure thing too and that he could do whatever he wanted, not work out, show up to camp close to 300 pounds with the idea that he was drafted first overall, a superstar and that this was going to be easy.

Welcome to the NFL JaMarcus! Nothing is easy in the NFL and if he wanted to succeed, regardless of what he did in college and where he were drafted, he should have worked harder then he had ever worked before, all year long.

His poor play and practice habits from the beginning pretty much sealed his fate.

Russell never played like a first overall draft pick would be expected to play, and his recent arrest for possession of a codeine based cough syrup without a prescription brings to light just one of the reasons for his failure.

Turns out that Russell’s alleged affinity for cough syrup was a rampant Internet rumor for more over a year. But comments on the internet concerning Russell’s use of codeine were deleted because they were considered speculation without any documentation for proof.

Now there is documentation and if you think about it, users of codeine may experience a sense of well-being, along with a loss of inhibitions.

In other words, he felt so good about himself he felt no urge to continually improve and prepare himself for football because he did not think he had too.

He was continuously seen in Las Vegas at all night parties and pictures of said parties were plastered all over the internet. Partying and fame were more important to Russell then the game of football itself.

It is a shame, because he had the talent to be great. It is nobodies fault but his own.
