Al Davis is Alright
Written by Travis Pulver, Monday July 12 2010
Over the last several years Oakland Raiders owner and general manager Al Davis has been under a lot of scrutiny. With many of the draft picks he has made in recent years and just the general way in which he has run the once proud franchise, many have publicly expressed their doubts on whether the man is fit to run an NFL franchise.
Recently there has been at least one former player that has spoken out in defense of Davis, one that has to be trusted because, well—Bo knows.
Bo Jackson was as much an icon on the field as he was in the media with his famous ‘Bo Knows’ commercials that ran in 1989 and 1990 starring himself and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Bo Diddley.
In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Jackson spoke out in defense of the owner of his former team.
"Everybody stands up and says, 'Al Davis, that crazy SOB.' That isn't so…This is a man who would have fought a lion with a switch to defend his players…Mr. Davis tells you exactly what he thinks…That's what I like about him." (PFT)
Davis is well known for being somewhat of a maverick character that cares little for what others think, especially his fellow owners. He made waves when he uprooted the Raiders from Oakland to Los Angeles in 1982 following an anti-trust lawsuit he filed after the owners voted 22-0 against the move.
When things did not pan out there like expected he moved the team back to Oakland for the 1995 season.
