Mariners Season Goes Up In Smoak
Before the temperature in Seattle hit in the 90’s the three main sources of speculation where when will summer really come, when will the Sounders regain their form from last season and who will acquire Cliff Lee. Two of those concerns have been addressed as, on the second miserably hot day in a row, the Mariners announced that Cliff Lee, scheduled starter in tonight’s game against the Yankees, has been traded to Texas.
In return the Rangers are sending first baseman Justin Smoak to Seattle along with three prospects, pitcher Blake Bevan, reliever Josh Lueke and utility man Matt Lawson. Mariners right hander Mark Lowe was also traded to Texas. The deal was made after talks with the Yankees fell through. Once the Yankees deal stalled the Rangers moved aggressively. Smoak was the Rangers number one pick in 2008 and is hitting .209 eight homeruns and 34 RBI.
Lee, 8-4 in 13 starts for the Mariners, could start for Texas tomorrow against the Orioles.

This deal is interesting, ESPN and the New York papers were insisting Lee was going to the Yankees, which would have been bad for any fan of baseball that wants competition, not a monopoly...also I thought the Rangers would not be able to make a deal because of the bankruptcy court
